What is Medical Technology?
Medical Technology is also a form of health products where you can monitor or treat every disease or condition that affects the humans health. These technology can help in improving the health care delivered and patient outcome through early diagnosis.Medical Technology is also called Clinical Laboratory Science as it is called. Medical Technology is the study and analysis of body fluids and tissues.Medical Technology has a special skills in that encompasses a number of different medical specialties including hematology,microbiology,immunology, clinical chemistry and parasitology.
History Of Medical Technology
The Medical Technology start in world war II when US army built a base on Leyte their Healt Care Team are brought here in the Philippines. The opening of the 26th medical laboratory of the 6th US Army was located at Quiricada, Sta. Cruz Manila were presently known as Public Health Laboratory.In 1945 of June the US army left the Philippines were the laboratory was endorsed to the National Department of health. When September24 1945 comes Dr.Pio De Roda and Dr.Mariano Icasiano re-organized the Laboratory and re-named it Manila Public Health Laboratory. In 1947 the Philippines open a training for civilians to become a lab workers. The formal training with syllabus starts 1954 this was made by Dr. Prudencia Sta. Cruz.The first school who offered BS-Med Tech was the Philippine Union College of Baesa in Caloocan year 1954. The first BS-Med Tech graduate was Dr. Jesse Umali. School Year 1957-58 the Medtech course was offered as an elective course to the 4th and 5th year BS.Pharmacy students by Dr. Antonio Gabriel and Dr. Gustavo Reyes.The permit for the 1st-3rd year was issued on June 1957. June 1960 the permit for internship program was issued. At last, June14,1961 the BS-Med Tech was fully recognized as a 4 year course and now many school are offering Bachelor of Science Major in Medical Technology.
Information Technology is now a part of our daily life because many of us knows what does technology means. Information Technology can also be use in our industry. It also use to manage information about everything we need. Information Technology is also a set of tools, processes and methodologies such as coding,data communication,data conversation,storage and retrieval,system analysis and design, and system control. We can also use Information Technology for storage of information as many as we can. One of the best example of Information Technology that is used by the Medical Technologist was the Computers.
Impact of Information Technology in Medical technology
After knowing what do Medical Technology and Information Technology all about lets now tackled about the advantages and disadvantages of Information Technology in the field of Medical Technology. Like what I said computer is one of the best examples of Information Technology for the advantages: Computers can be use in fast scheduling of patients check up. Computers can also storage some data records about the patient that can be to diagnosed some disease easily. Being updated in Information Technology can help some hospital personnel in having a vast knowledge in their fields. Computers can help us in many ways. But if Information Technology has an advantages in the field of Medical Technology there will be also disadvantages. Here are some disadvantages that the Medical Technologist can experience. The time will come that we will be needing more Medical Technology because some of the laboratories will be needing many personnel. But, sad to say Medical Technology can be replaced by computers because as time goes by the computers can do what Medical Technologists can do. Computer are also more accurate and reliable in providing some results.But, always remember that the computers are still manage by us.Time come that the computer will be infected and get damage.And it's reliability and accuracy will get affected.
As Medical Technology student I could say that BS in Medical Technology is one of the most difficult course that I know. If you want to be a Medical Technologist please keep this advice,pursuing this field needs a lot of effort and determination,because now a days technology is getting larger and larger, that's why this course gets tougher as generations passes by. And also we must have the courage to continue to learn and evolved ourselves,
to become effective Medical Technologist. Having a long patience may help you especially when it comes to awkward, and unexpected situations. but we must take this risk because our society needs a lot of support coming from us most commonly when it time of natural calamities. One last thing, the secret to become
effective Medical Technologist is to love what you do, and let God do it for you.
